Summary

Mated werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham must discover what could make an entire community disappear--before it's too late--in this thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling Alpha and Omega series。

In the wilds of the Northern California mountains, all the inhabitants of a small town have gone missing。 It's as if the people picked up and left their possessions behind。 With a mystery on their hands and no jurisdiction on private property, the FBI dumps the whole problem in the lap of the land owner, Aspen Creek, Inc。--aka the business organization of the Marrok's pack。

Somehow, the pack of the Wolf Who Rules is connected to a group of vanished people。 Werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham are tasked with investigating, and soon find that a deserted town is the least of the challenges they face。

Death sings in the forest, and when it calls, Charles and Anna must answer。 Something has awakened in the heart of the California mountains, something old and dangerous--and it has met werewolves before。

I love these books and had been saving this one, couldn’t wait any longer 。It’s as good as usual, honestly, these books almost read themselves。Brilliant story and it was lovely to finally get to know Leah better。Enjoyed every minute。The epilogue of this one has broken my heart!

The first thing I did after finishing this book, was look at the release date for #7。 Then loudly yelled AGH, two years! I reread this series from start to finish each time the next book is published。 I guess I get one year off, but I will be waiting at the edge of my seat in anticipation。 I absolutely loved how much backstory this one gave to Leah。 Lot's of great tie ins to the Mercy Thompson wolves as well。 The first thing I did after finishing this book, was look at the release date for #7。 Then loudly yelled AGH, two years! I would have preferred more romance and less mystery in the woods but I enjoyed the character development and the final battle was exciting。

A group of recluses disappear from their small camp on land belonging to Leah, the Marrok's mate。 Secrets and lost memories are only a small part of the problem that Charles and Anna must confront as they hike towards - and find - Wild Sign。 There are some evils that are old enough to wait for those that come to them。Books in the Mercy Thompson universe are (with a few exceptions) reliably good, warm and comforting for me as a reader (even if horrible things happen inside those pages!)。 Wild Sig A group of recluses disappear from their small camp on land belonging to Leah, the Marrok's mate。 Secrets and lost memories are only a small part of the problem that Charles and Anna must confront as they hike towards - and find - Wild Sign。 There are some evils that are old enough to wait for those that come to them。Books in the Mercy Thompson universe are (with a few exceptions) reliably good, warm and comforting for me as a reader (even if horrible things happen inside those pages!)。 Wild Sign is another excellent entry to the universe。 Delightfully creepy, its story slowly unravelling, the added bonus of Anna and Charles still being as cute as ever - I'm definitely going to be rereading this one at some point。 。。。more

I feel like this was a response to how badly the major themes in Iron Kissed were handled。 This was。。。better than that。 Briggs is finally handling how horrible and creepy Bran can be。 Not sure I like all of the conclusions, but An Attempt Was Made。

I have read this series 3 times now as of Feb 2022。 It is a favorite go-to for an exciting easy read shifter adventure。2-28-22 This was my first time reading Wild Sign though。 I had been burning through the rest of the series and was excited to see Ms。 Briggs had a new one for me to read。 I was not disappointed。 The adventure continued in a pretty epic fashion。 I was happy to have Leah's story at last。 I have read this series 3 times now as of Feb 2022。 It is a favorite go-to for an exciting easy read shifter adventure。2-28-22 This was my first time reading Wild Sign though。 I had been burning through the rest of the series and was excited to see Ms。 Briggs had a new one for me to read。 I was not disappointed。 The adventure continued in a pretty epic fashion。 I was happy to have Leah's story at last。 。。。more

This book was certainly a Wow! What a great story line。 The book kept me riveted。 It did get really dark in some places。 If Patricia Briggs was less of a story teller I wouldn't be able to handle it but she is just so good at what she does。 I love the little touches of uniqueness that flavor the Mercy Thompson/Alpha & Omega world, like having pie at a gas station with some unexpected hosts。 Anna has grown so much and I really enjoy learning more about her pack members。 They are such interesting This book was certainly a Wow! I love both Mercy & Adam and Charles & Anna, but with Alpha & Omega we actually get more couple time。 Mercy & Adam spend a lot of their books apart whilst Charles & Anna are nearly always together。Leah's past is brought to light, and Charles, Anna & Tag are tasked with finding out what happened to the settlement of Wild Sign which had been built on land owned by Leah。 All the people have mysteriously vanished 。 Wild Sign is in the California mountains and that was where Bran rescued Leah, about I love both Mercy & Adam and Charles & Anna, but with Alpha & Omega we actually get more couple time。 Mercy & Adam spend a lot of their books apart whilst Charles & Anna are nearly always together。Leah's past is brought to light, and Charles, Anna & Tag are tasked with finding out what happened to the settlement of Wild Sign which had been built on land owned by Leah。 All the people have mysteriously vanished 。 Wild Sign is in the California mountains and that was where Bran rescued Leah, about 200 years ago。Lots of mystery, music, monsters & witches, but where are the people? A return to form?To put it bluntly, I’ve been unsatisfied with the last couple of books in both the Mercy and the Omega series, and honestly, the only reason I picked this up was because it was a daily deal。 Having said that, I really enjoyed this story。 It deals with Leah and her past, and once again Anna and Charles (Tag included) are heading off into the wilderness (my favourite setting for this couple)。 There are witches, wolves, walkers and a creature that is a call back to River Marked… pe A return to form?To put it bluntly, I’ve been unsatisfied with the last couple of books in both the Mercy and the Omega series, and honestly, the only reason I picked this up was because it was a daily deal。 Having said that, I really enjoyed this story。 It deals with Leah and her past, and once again Anna and Charles (Tag included) are heading off into the wilderness (my favourite setting for this couple)。 There are witches, wolves, walkers and a creature that is a call back to River Marked… perhaps that’s why I had fun reading this? Audiobook review: Mystery and werewolves make for an interesting and entertaining story! Once again Anna and Charles are tasked with researching a mystery and later resolving a paranormal problem。 The issues are intense and the romantic moments sweet。 Brother Wolf has a good amount of air time! Oh, and there are a couple cool of revelations towards the end。 The narrator did a great job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene。

Patricia Brigg's Alpha & Omega books have become a comfort read for me。 I especially enjoyed the last two books, 'Dead Heat' and 'Burn Bright'。 I slipped into 'Wild Sign' expecting more of the same but, about a third of the way through the book, I almost set it aside。 It made me realise what trigger warnings were for because it pulled a couple of my own。 I wrote a post about my thoughts trigger warnings and reading about abuse in 'Wild Sign' but decided to continue on wit Patricia Brigg's Alpha & Omega books have become a comfort read for me。 I especially enjoyed the last two books, 'Dead Heat' and 'Burn Bright'。 I slipped into 'Wild Sign' expecting more of the same but, about a third of the way through the book, I almost set it aside。 It made me realise what trigger warnings were for because it pulled a couple of my own。 I wrote a post about my thoughts trigger warnings and reading about abuse in 'Wild Sign' but decided to continue on with the book。 I finished it yesterday。 It was an above-average Urban Fantasy story with a strong ensemble cast that I know well, a set of deeply evil opponents, some well-done fight scenes and a slightly uneven pace。 But I never really got past the abuse。 Mostly because the more I read, the more abuse there was。 I understand that it's reasonable, maybe even necessary, for a writer to write bad guys who are fundamentally evil。 Without them, how would we know who the good guys are? Especially when the good guys turn into wolves and that kill efficiently and with a certain amount of glee。 Patricia Briggs gives us two sets of evil to contemplate here: the Hardisty witches who we've met before and who only become worse on closer acquaintance and another, mysterious force that steals memories and feeds off fear and pain。 The catalogue of their crimes includes abduction, rape, enslavement, torture, mind control and the sex trafficking of children。 Their victims include the two main female werewolves in the ensemble cast。 The 'solution' to the problem involved traumatic, life-changing violence。 Normally, I'd add that none of this nastiness was gratuitous but, in a way, it was all gratuitous。 This whole plot pivoted on using power to make people helpless, to take away their dignity, and to subject them to physical and emotional abuse that robs them of their sense of self。 So, no there weren't any exploitative scenes of sex or violence but why choose this plot? I know I'm not being entirely fair here。 The Alpha & Omega series has always been about abuse。 Anna was a long term victim of sexual and emotional abuse。 Charles is constantly placed, by his father, in a role that demands so much violence from him that he had begun to see himself as a monster。 This was never a cosy storyline。 But, up to now, the thrust of the story was about Anna and Charles helping each other recover from that abuse。 In this story, that element seemed to be lost。 The relationship between Anna and Charles was still given prominence and was still essentially mutually redemptive but most of the story emphasised vulnerability and the permanent nature of the scars that abuse leaves。 So the Alpha & Omega series is still on my reading list but I won't be assuming that it's a comfort read anymore。 。。。more
